Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L

A convenient lens for portraits in tight spaces, for example when sitting at a table in a dimly lit café. It’s fast enough and wide enough for these kinds of situations, and produces pleasant, soft bokeh.

Wide open, it isn’t quite sharp enough for cityscapes or landscapes, but at f/2.8 it becomes reasonably sharp.

As an everyday lens, in my case it falls short of the EF 50mm f/1.2L, both in terms of image quality and focal length. However, I find the bokeh of the 35mm less smooth and more “artistic.”

Autofocus is fast and almost silent. It works well with a mirrorless camera.

I have a couple of other manual 35mm f/1.4, and unfortunately this Canon does not look sharp in comparison.
